JOLIET · CITY OF STEEL AND STONE · WILL COUNTY

The Water Tower on Michigan Avenue, the one that made it through the Great Fire, is Joliet stone. It was built in 1869 of buff limestone quarried in Joliet, back when about 25 quarries ran along the river between Joliet and Lemont and the city called itself the City of Steel and Stone.

On the back: a coursed limestone wall with JOLIET carved into the lintel and "City of Steel and Stone" above it. Under it: "The Water Tower on Michigan Avenue is Joliet stone", "By the 1890s, 25 quarries ran between Joliet and Lemont · Will County" and "Iron sharpens iron · Prov 27:17".

On the front: the mark inside a small shield at the left chest.

On the left sleeve: "Stone City · Will County", tone on tone.

Front, back and sleeve: printed direct to garment (DTG)
Pepper, garment-dyed cotton fleece

Care: machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle, with like colors. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print.
