ILLINOIS BEACH · LAKE COUNTY

If you spent summers at Illinois Beach, the domes were part of the view: two concrete containment buildings just up the shore in Zion, the tallest structures in Lake County when the plant opened in 1973. The Zion Nuclear Power Station sat on the lakefront between the park's North and South Units. It ran from 1973 until 1997 and was permanently shut down in 1998. Demolition of the domes began in 2018, and the decommissioning work wrapped up in 2020. The horizon is open lake again.

On the back: a framed, linocut-style print of the view, with marram dune grass on the beach in front, the two domes on the shore and a low sun over the lake. Under the frame: "Looking north from the South Unit" and "Zion Station · 1973–1998". Below that: ILLINOIS BEACH and "Two domes once on the horizon · Zion · Lake County".

On the front: the mark, set in a small solid patch at the left chest.

On the left sleeve: Zion and a small Matt 4:18-19, tone on tone. Anglers launch and fish from these beaches, and the verse is Jesus calling two fishermen by the sea.

Front, back and sleeve: printed direct to garment (DTG)

Lemont Stone (Ivory), garment-dyed cotton

6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, relaxed fit

Care: machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle, with like colors. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print.
