The stockyards closed in 1971. The gate stayed.

The Union Stock Yards opened on Christmas Day in 1865. At their height they covered 475 acres and handled about 15 million head a year. They closed in 1971.

The limestone gate on Exchange Avenue dates to the 1870s and was designed by Burnham & Root, with a stone bull's head over the arch. It became a Chicago Landmark in 1972 and a National Historic Landmark in 1981.

A memorial nearby honors the 21 firefighters killed in the 1910 yards fire. It was dedicated on December 22, 2004.

This is the Exchange Avenue tee, also available as a heavyweight.
