MIDEWIN · WILMINGTON · WILL COUNTY
Say it mi-DAY-win. Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie sits near Wilmington, south of Joliet, and before it was the nation's first national tallgrass prairie this ground was the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. The concrete bunkers out in the grass weren't called bunkers. The Army called them igloos, after the stacked-square pattern the forms left in the concrete. About 400 were still standing when the prairie was established on February 10, 1996, and the first 5,000 acres opened to the public in 2004.
Black, 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed. A row of igloos across the back, the mark at the chest, "19,165 acres · Feb 10, 1996" on the left sleeve, Heb 12:11 small at the back of the neck.
Care: machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle, with like colors. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print.
