LAKE FOREST
Market Square opened in 1916. It was designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw for Arthur Aldis, and it's often called the first planned shopping center in America.
Picture it the way the old photo has it: two towers, a long run of shops, and a wide open square in the middle. A whole downtown drawn up at once, on purpose, instead of one storefront at a time.
We put that photo on the back, the way it looked a year after it opened. It's a little piece of Lake County you can wear anywhere.
On the shirt: Market Square as an old-photo halftone panel across the back, both towers and the shops along Western Avenue, over a LAKE FOREST title bar with MARKET SQUARE · WESTERN AVENUE, "Opened in 1916" and OFTEN CALLED THE FIRST PLANNED SHOPPING CENTER IN AMERICA set under it. On the front, the mark over LAKE FOREST and MARKET SQUARE · 1916 at the left chest. On the left sleeve, the clock tower and HOWARD VAN DOREN SHAW, ARCHITECT.
- Back print, two inks, with front and left sleeve prints
- Blue Jean, 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed
- Relaxed fit
Care: machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle, with like colors. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print.
