LOCKPORT · I&M CANAL · WILL COUNTY
Before the railroads, the way west out of Chicago was a ditch: the Illinois and Michigan Canal, 96 miles from the Chicago River to the Illinois River, opened in 1848 and run from Lockport, the town platted as its headquarters. Boats didn't sail it. Mules pulled them, walking the towpath. Locals say Chicago owes it all to this ditch.
On the back: LOCKPORT across the top, with "The towpath at Lockport" and "Opened 1848" under it, and below that two mules on the towpath towing a canal boat toward the lock gates. Under the scene: "Mules on the towpath · 96 miles of canal" and "Locals say Chicago owes it all to this ditch · I&M Canal · Will County". At the hem, small and tone on tone: James 1:22.
On the front: the mark over a small MAYVICK at the left chest.
On the left sleeve: "Platted 1837 · Opened 1848", tone on tone.
Front, back and sleeve: printed direct to garment (DTG)
Prairie Path (Khaki), garment-dyed cotton
6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, relaxed fit
Care: machine wash cold, inside out, gentle cycle, with like colors. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print.
